Arrival in Italy! High anticipation for the "Nozze" (Wedding). Lots of catching up to do, and to go back to our favorite restaurants to...

MANGIARE!

Ecco, ho arrivato in Italia Martedi por la festa grande.

I just finished talking with Lisa, after many years of no communication. The last time I saw her was at my Dad's funeral. It was a nice surprise to have heard her voice once again. I asked about all of you, and if you used email. She said yes, so this message is a step to rebuild communication with my family. Some of the family is missing from the distribuition, so Lisa, if you could, please fill in the blanks by forwarding this message to the others. Also, I may have some incorrect addresses, so I will attach a return message to find out which ones do not work. Thanks....If you desire, you may catch up on the Brunettis in Idaho by clicking on:

Enjoy, if you will...allora

There will be more messages following this one, containing information on how the wedding is progressing, as well as pictures to document the grand event. Already, a fine legacy of stories is building that will last for many years, I am sure. (I am trying to keep the size of the messages, including the pix to 300Kbytes or so. Depending on your connection, you will experience some delay in opening them...surely not as long as the time it takes to send them through the web from Italy to Idaho and then to you!)

I am the lone cousin from USA to attend the wedding, aside of course, Nicolas & Christopher. I am sure we will have a GREAT time. I don't know if you have met the Russo's, Simona's family, but these people of the south have a great passion for life, food and singing. When I was living in Germany (1996) for 8 months, I visited here many times and on one special occasion we had a barbecue with the Russo's at Simona's uncle's house...Nicola. At this barbecue, I videotaped almost the entire event. What a piece of work! When we meet again, this is a must to see! It is very good that Stefano is marrying into such a fine, enthusiastic family. (I also have a video of the Russos and Brunettis at Raccone having a great bagna cauda feed...another must see!)

Anyway, Stefi has arrived just now, and we are going to look at some pictures of the last few days, some of which you will receive in following messages.

I hope that all is well with you, and of course, you will stay with this thread to experience the marriage of Stefi and Simona.

Ciao, suo cugino,

 Enzo

P.S. Virginia could not make the trip because she is having some kind of hip problem that the doctors still cannot figure out. With this problem, she cannot sit for a long time without experiencing a lot of pain. She sends her best wishes to all of you.

P.S.2. I also learned from Lisa that Sam Dibitonto's younger brother works very closely with her, so if you could, Sam, please send me his email address. Grazie.

Lunch at Pigna d'Oro / Dinner at the flat in Torino...fruit & cheese only!

Buon Giorno Tutti,

Today we shopped all day. The highlight was a trip to Odasso, where Stefi and Simona are registered. Such a nice place! Attached are some pix to illustrate the beautiful products of Italian design that surely they will receive as gifts.

We also went to Pigna d'Oro for pranzo. Typically, Perotto was in rare form and the food was the best. We discussed some bad info that has been given out from some hotels in Torino about Pigna d'Oro; that the food has gone downhill and is now a shambles. Well, nothing is further from the truth. We think, since Piero Perotto has become the vice president of the national Italian culinary association...

Arte in Tavola Flambe'Associazione Italiana Maestri di Risorazione e Ospitalita

There is a great envy of this restaurant, so some people of poor character choose to bad mouth the "Pigna" and direct them to places of inferior quality, character and ambiance. I know that generations of Brunettis for 30 years have been coming to the Pigna, and Piero and his wife have been the hosts for all of this time. (it also may be that Perotto does not provide kickback to the hotels and this is the way that they try to hurt his business)

We went to Auchan, the big multicenter. There, I discovered some translated Steven King Novels and Harry Potter. I took pictures of the covers. Some security guy came up and demanded my camera and to go with him to security central. Francesco and I argued a bit and then went along. (I didn't give him my camera) On arrival, il capo came forward and asked this security dope what was up? He told him that I TOOK PICTURES! He asked some more questions and then asked if he could see them. Since this was a digial camera, I showed him the 2 pix. He then called HIS capo, spoke for 10 seconds and hung up. He apologized to Francesco, to me, and the security guy also did some bowing, scraping and apologizing. (probably a communist)

Non so perche...

We went to the church on the hill in San Rafaelle (sp?)...door was locked. This is the old one, built in 156X. Good choice. We also talked about a(the) reception that will be held at de Fillipi (the frito misto restaurante)! This place you have all been to I am sure, the home of "fricha". I am sure that we all remember as kids that fricha was one of the primi piati served at Nonno e Nonna's house during the holidays. This place was chosen by Stefi because it was the first restaurant he was taken to as a child.

The 3 best restaurants in Torino: Pigna d'Oro, Defillipi and Mandraccio. OBOY. Outside Torino, in Monferrato, try La Braya (the Shout).

Enough, enjoy the pix...more on the way.

Enzo

Stuff from Odasso...nice.
