How it happened.

Same 4th of July weekend. I finished the B24 ride, and there was a beautiful Stearman PT-17A rolling out for 15 minute rides to Meridian and back. Again, Virginia said: "Go, do it!" Another flight of a lifetime. I guess I have watched crop dusters and on occasion the PT-17 at an airshow. "What would it be like to be in that front seat?"

The Stearman was born when Travelair, a company made up of Beech, Cessna and Stearman broke up. Stearman was bought by Boeing and became the Stearman Division. They contracted to design and build a primary trainer for the Armed Forces. The result was the PT-17A Stearman. From this primary many student pilots eventually became pilots for the famous Republic Thunderbolt, P47. And, perhaps some of the early North American Mustang, P51 pilots as well.

The Stearman has had a long and successful career as a trainer, crop duster and aerobatic fun toy.

It happened and I have pix and .AVI video. Send me an E-mail and I will send you some video clips from the Stearman ride.
