"The Farm" has
been carved out of 5 acres of desert. 1000 trees, 3 acres of grass, two ponds, 2000 shrubs have created a micro climate that is typically 5-10 degrees more moderate than the unprotected desert nearby. 18 years of growing and cultivating with ample water supply from the canal system in the valley makes this possible. Soil amending from the harsh alkaline towards the acidic side (still in process) is one of the realities. Around the house, canopies of Shademaster Locust filter the harsh sun to enable lush pockets of hosta, rhododendron and ferns. Architecurally the result of Virginia's is a wonder and a supremely wonderful place to live.
An overview of The Farm reveals a perimeter of pines, layered down to shrub level to a depth of 25 feet. This creates a haven for birds and screens the outside world.
The ponds and numerous bird baths provide a water sources for a wide range of birds to live in and visit The Farm.
Inside, a wide range of species live together; not in the natural world, but in this created fantasy. Egyptian Papyrus sits next to rosemary for kitchen seasoning and nearby are staghorn ferns. Giant Sequoia (a baby of just a few years) find a home by Coast Redwoods, Ponderosa, Red Oak, Souxland Poplar, Sugar Maple and Idaho native Russian Olive. Come
inside and see more...
