 OW Goes to the
Boise Roadster Show!

We just finished competing in the Boise Roadster Show. Boise is one stop on the ISCA (International Show Car Association) circuit. There are 50 cities on the tour...Boston, Cleveland, Houston, Dallas, Spokane, Sacramento, Detroit, Atlanta, Ottawa...Championship prizes total close to $100,000. So, with all of this incentive, we thought it might be a good place to find out what people think of Old White.

Meantime, Virg and I had been driving OW in the rain and through road construction in Eagle. We had to clean her up. So, I hired a young guy to help with the detailing. We spend two solid 12 hour days underneath OW cleaning and painting. She also had some leaks: oil, transmission cooler and radiator. All of this nice stuff, mud and road tar added up to an underneath paint job. OBOY.

Wednesday, last week, was the check-in day at the Fairgrounds. I started up OW and heard some major squealing that turned out to be frozen bearings in the alternator I bought at Dillon Auto Salvage. So away I went, bought an alternator and installed it. (2 days earlier, the high pressure radiator cap I put on OW blew one of the original seams on the radiator tank. It came out,
got fixed, and with a new 7 PSI cap, she was as good as new.) Anyway, I loaded up the posters, polish, rags, and headed out for the fairgrounds.

There, I discovered what an ISCA show is: cars were coming out of enclosed vans on tires that were wrapped in plastic so they wouldn't get dirty. Some of these cars are worth over $200,000! Old White and I were not daunted. I DROVE her right up to the entrance and gave them my entry form. The guy says, "Nice Truck!" I knew then, I had nothing to worry about.

I set up next to a Concourse-level 40 Cadillac and a perfect, red, 66 Corvette. What company!

My display did not have carpet, stainless steel railings, laser lights or professional panache. But we did have Glen Miller music and the history of OW on the laptop. We were the only display with music from the car and a live display. During the show, we met hundreds of nice people, most of which were building or have had 60-66 chevy trucks. I met a lot of kids, some with their dads; for future consulting and just talking, web site URL.

Anyway, on Awards Night, Sunday, Virginia and I went over to watch. Since I had never competed before, I didn't know what to expect. When they came to the class trophies, OW won first place in "mild truck", meaning 10 or less modifications. We were surprised, but very appreciative for the recognition. We collected the trophy, waited a bit, and then Virg went home, since she
gets up so early for work. I hung around to see the rest of the awards. After a few minutes, they announced the "Outstanding Truck" award, and "the white 62 Chevy from Eagle, Larry Brunetti". I damn near fainted! another award, plaque and $50 prize! I couldn't believe it, OW won in this category over some very impressive trucks!

Here are some of the pix from the show...
