Today, the chassis mated with the cab! It has been a long time, since April, and OW is starting to take shape. Tom finished the last fender.
(We had to buy two others to scavenge enough metal to make two good ones.) We tried the right fender to check for clearance...OK! And, it looked so good, we left it on. I was worried the engine was going to
interfere with the radiator, but when Tom got the front end on, it worked perfectly.
The inside painting is finished and the doors have been installed. The door panels and seats came back from the upholstery shop.
At this point, the only hitch is that the headers on the left side just about
cover up the steering box, making connection from the steering column impossible. So, I'll have to go back to Sanderson and get 3 of the pipes moved out of the way.
We mounted the tires and today Tom adjusted the torsion bars. The bottom of the cab is 11 inches off the pavement...we were shooting for 10.5. Not bad. We still have to put the weight of the bed plus wood on to the rear, so I'm thinking it will come down about one inch.
We are shooting for Nov 5 to have OW back at home for wiring and finishing of the brakes. At that time, we will have the cab and front end totally assembled; the bed will be entering Tom's shop for
it's facelift. All parts will stay in primer until the very last, and then to the final 3-stage Cadillac pearl white finish.
