Update on TUKU's "Old White" Project

First Paint! Old White's cab has no more rust. All of the rust was removed and replaced with new metal. She got primed and undercoated...the same poly was applied to the inside cab floor. The dash was painted with a light metallic tan/gold...excellent!

The drive train was finished and installed, as well as the rear brakes. That completes the chassis. All of the final accessories are now installed on the engine, including two "billet" style pulleys...one for the alternator and one for the water pump. I decided to replace the usual water pump mounted fan with an electric. We've ordered a lot of parts! Air conditioning, all of the window rubber, glass. I found a 60/40 seat from a late model GMC, and it fits the floor of the cab perfectly. With the paint chip, it now goes to the upholstery shop for new clothes. A '92 GMC steering column also fits perfectly! The Bumpers, grill and some dash parts are packaged up to be shipped to Salt Lake for "show quality" triple chrome plating: the process is copper, polish, nickle and final chrome.

The engine is now mounted with fabricated parts that mate up with standard 45 degree motor mounts. Brent fabricated them from tubular steel and angle iron. The rear mount was similarly fabricated from tube stock and angle iron. We had problems with the standard oil pan. The sump, the lowest part of the pan is normally at the rear of the engine, and it interfered with the steering tierod. Brent called the local sage, Larry Crawford, who found a front sump pan, used on 1966 Novas. It is now installed, with plenty of clearance for everything. (This is a complicated job, building a car from the ground up). Old White never had it so good.

The last details on the engine: we had problems with the original headers, as they exited right into the power steering unit. But Kelly Robert, a friend of mine and car builder, found a set of headers from Sanderson; these will be ordered next. The fenders and hood were sandblasted. As Tom looked at all of the rust and dings... he has so much experience; he is suggesting an alternative to trying to fix some of the very badly rusted and dented pieces.

Old White was used as a plaything by the goats for about 2 years, and all of the jumping on the hood has made it very difficult to make it straight.

Anyway, Tom has some connections that may come up with some parts that will replace the rust and the goat trampoline hood.
