YES!!
Two days of full time work has resulted in final paint. Lots of prepping and examining, tweaking, fixing and getting ready for the big day. Jeff went out and bought a new SATA JET gun for this job! Carter was sick on prep day, too bad. A day with lots of jerky and anticipation. On paint day, both Carter and Jeff were just about full time. The booth was cleaned and in went OW, cab & bed. Inside, the final taping began with the real stuff. Carter seamed the tail light assemblies and cab roof. More wiping and the doors closed. On went the air cleaner.

Outside the booth, Jeff mixed the sealer. This is needed over the primer to get it right. This white stuff went on quickly. Time for lunch, I bought: burgers from Doug's Burger Den. CJ provided dessert: Jerky. Then Jeff and I took a quick trip to his house to pick up the new gun.

Then the fun started. First, the base coat of white. Wait a bit, then Jeff mixed the pearl and it went on, 2 coats I think.

Meanwhile, Virginia, Jeff and I decided to add a pinch of "Prizmatique" to the first 2 coats of clear. These tiny prisms reflect and refract direct light into tiny points of colored light. In the sunlight, the result is subtle but effective; it will cause some double-takes.

On went 4 coats of clear eurethane. We closed up the doors at 7:00pm and went home.

Tomorrow, Jeff will shoot the door jambs and inside the bed. OW will rest for the weekend, and on Monday the finish will be wet sanded (cut) with 2000 grit and polished to the final finish. We all hope the sun is shining.

The next day...
Jeff shot the door jambs and inside of the bed. This finishes the pearl white painting.

We talked about some ideas on highlighting. First came the tailgate. We decided to highlight the "CHEVROLET" on the tailgate with "flip" paint. This paint changes color depending on the viewing angle. We chose to use a paint that flips from greenish-gold to deep magenta. We also decided to do a reverse image, where the letters remain pearl white and the background is the highlight color.

   Here are the pix...

More to come..
