Well, Thanksgiving has come and gone and so has the weekend. Our goal of startup was not realized, but the final termination of all of the installed wiring has gone well. Actually, she did kind of startup: the starter turns over. And: the headlights work, the instruments and instrument lights, the cigarette lighter (with light inside), electric cooling fan, windshield wipers! OBOY!
The brakes are totally finished, bled and ready for stopping. All wheels are on, and OW is finally off the jack stands. The fuel line is terminated and filter installed. (The sender was shot, so I have to
buy a new one) One side of the power steering pump is hooked up. Radiator hoses are installed, custom throttle linkage is installed, including accelerator pedal.
I took the header to an expert car builder in Eagle . He builds custom sprint cars and dragsters. A great shop and craftsman. Steve "QKiss" took the left header and removed the number 3 pipe. He then re-routed #3 to the collector in order to miss the steering U-joints (see pix below). Test installation and clearance was perfect! It now goes to "Jet-Hot" in San Francisco for a finish of hot aluminum coating.
HVAC: We started the installation of the air conditioner/heating, and it should be finished by about Wednesday. Monday, I will pick up the hood from Tom's and with the installation, we can test the turn
signals and emergency flasher. Also need to pick up a transmission cooler from Tom (his present to me), and materials to fabricate the hookup to the 700R4 tranny. One case of transmission fluid for the 700R4 and the
power steering pump. Lube for the Ford 9 inch rear end, plus magic additive for the positrac clutches. Glove box and light, dome light fixture, under hood light...the list goes on and on.
By Friday, one week
behind the latest schedule, OW comes to life. Then she goes back on the trailer for a trip toTom's in Caldwell for the bed installation and door tuning. While at Tom's, the exhaust system and Flowmaster (2-stage) x
2.5" mufflers go on.
Then it is to final block sanding (fourth time), and a trip to the final finish paint shop for a three-stage Cadillac pearl white finish. Then back to Tom's for glass installation,
weather sealing and rear tail/stop light hookup. Then to United Upholstery for the carpet, and stop by to have the wheels aligned.
Then we can cruise the main!
Need to order the stereo and speakers for proper crusin'...just dreaming.
